SUNRISE, SUNSET

Were the beginning words to a song from Fiddler on the Roof. As the sun rises somewhere on earth, it is setting somewhere else. A sunrise gives us a chance to greet a new day. A new dawn! A sunset gives us a chance to reflect on the day's ending. Like life, someone is being born while someone else is dying. The sunset of your life! Many romantic moments happen at sunsets. Especially on beaches! There is something meaningful watching the sun rise or set. The sky can be a myriad of colours. Rhymes about it- Red sky at night sailor's delight. Red sky in the morning sailor's warning. I guess it means something if you are a sailor! We start the day looking to the East and end the day looking to the West. Does the symbolism of directions have some meaning for us as well? The sky has always intrigued humans. We look to the sky because that is where heaven should be. Christ ascended into heaven! If we think of leaving this earth we often think the same way. Sunrise, sunset- without these beautiful daily moments what would our lives be like?

  1. It is only when the sun sets that we are able to see the heavens filled with a myriad of stars. While it shines, we are blinded to the heavens.
