BARB'S GENEALOGY TIDBITS- BOOK REVIEWS FOR KAWARTHA BRANCH

I can not help every branch to which I belong.

So I decided since I have written a series of articles on Ball Point Mariposa Township City of Kawartha Lakes ( Victoria County) I would try to use my resources for that branch.

To add some filler to the Kawartha Branch newsletter I have written several reviews on books from the area.

It is surprising how much information gets accumulated but is not used for my own family lines. So sharing this information and hoping someone can use it.

Books Reviewed- Mariposa Township

The Scugog Carrying Place

On the Shores of Scugog

Scugog and its Environs

Anyone interested in a review can contact me and I can forward to you. Or just look up these resources online.

BLESSINGS-HOW MANY DO YOU HAVE?

We often complain about so much. What we missed? What we don't have?

Looking at some people who seem never to experience any hardship.

If we stop and count our own blessings then life becomes sweeter.

Family.

Friends.

Love.

A full belly.

Being Canadian.

More stuff than we know what to do with.

Well you get the picture!

Of course for me the colour purple~~

RED AND WHITE-COLOURS WITH FEELING

So the red.  My June poppies.

Then the white. My June Peonies.

Perusing my picture folders today I came across these beautiful flowers.

So rather than rhetoric, simple pictures speak a thousand words.

TIRED OF SELFISH PEOPLE! HOW ABOUT YOU?

Covid did a number on all of us.

Yes all of us.

One person's journey has not been equal to others.

But worrying about no beach holiday or nails done or having to be considerate of others is a little selfish.

Tired of selfish.

Tired of self centeredness.

Tired  of those that do not realize that people died from COVID- 27,000 in Canada and counting!

Having a loved one die during covid has been almost unbearable. No funeral. No public way to honour. Sure facebook and online memorial but hard not invite those who loved the person.

Think outside your selfish self. Think and reach out to others.

In the words of an ICU doctor I knew while I worked at the hospital- you can not cure Stupid!!

AROMATIC DAY TRIPS- THE GIVING PLACE

Near Mount Albert Ontario is a sweet farm setting of lavender and honey.

Sundays open to the public one can wonder around and sometimes sit to enjoy the setting.

Lavender farms are so inviting.

2021 AND WOMEN'S RIGHTS ARE STILL ON THE TABLE

Distressing to see the outcome in Afghanistan.

We know women and young girls will take the brunt of it.

No rights.

Arranged marriages of young girls to older men.

Take away schooling etc.

Helpless as an international community.

How to reach out and help those women and children is the dilemma??

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS MAKE THE MONTH HAPPY

Celebrating family birthdays make August fun.

Today one grandson turns 11. Hard to believe time is marching on.

He was the youngest grandchild for awhile until two more came along.

So today he is celebrated with joy.

Cake and pizza last Sunday and a water park visit on Friday to celebrate.

Sort of like celebrating for a week. Lucky kid!!

THINKING OF FOLKS IN BC

The BC fires have been devasyating.

Glen Rosa the subdivision where my folks lived for 35 years is under evacuation alert. There was a fire there in 2009.

Peachland is on alert where my folks are buried in the cemetery there.

Westbank and West Kelowna are under fire seige.

Thoughts and prayers they will get through this. The people there deserve a break and to keep their homes.

FIRST TRIP TO DOWNTOWN TORONTO IN AGES

A day out with two very close friends.

We were supposed to see the MONET Exhibition but it had been changed. Started the next day.

So had taken the UP- Union-Pearson train to Union station beside the Metro Convention Centre.

So walked around.

We had a nice lunch and chat at Scaddabush on Front Street. First time actually eating inside a restaurant. Masks and distancing prevailed.

My Zucca Ravioli was tasty. Buttersquash and cream sauce.

Back with UP and a station pickup to go to my friend's house for coffee and a cupcake. More gabbing before heading home.
