THE WITNESS BLANKET BY CAREY NEWMAN

For an poignant statement on Residential Schools the Witness Blanket by Carey Newman is a must see.

Witness Blanket

His piece of art collecting pieces from Residential Schools is a one of a kind project.

There is also a documentary you can find online on the making of the blanket.

NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION 2021

Time to listen.

Time to reflect.

Learn about our history.

Many places have events planned. Here in York Region communities have their own event.

I will be attending virtually a lecture from the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts.

I will talk about it in another post.

You can wear an orange shirt if you have one.

EMBRACING LIFE MEANS YOU STIR UP THE WATER SOMETIMES

Life with commitment means to take a stand sometimes.

The recent events with yahoos protesting hospitals is not only wrong but disheartening for so many healthcare professionals.

So tired of stupid I have been pushing back on various venues. I can not listen to stupid. I can not tolerate stupid anymore.

How about you? Are you tired of stupid too?

BELONGING COMES IN ALL COLOURS-AN AMAZING QUILT

A piece of a beautiful quilt project that incorporated the breadth of cultures and communities in Canada.

I took these pictures at the CNE a couple of years ago. It is more impressive in person.

When a joint project like this is conceived, made and displayed it brings more meaning to our beautiful nation.

TUESDAY THOUGHTS DURING A FALL COVID WAVE-WHAT IS SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY?

Didn't we all think we would be past Covid at this time last year?

What is disheartening is the number of stupid people who are denying the whole thing!

Don't wear a mask!

Don't get vaccinated!

Party like there is no tomorrow!

Social responsibility starts with all of us.

We carry our weight.

We wear our seatbelts.

We don't drive drunk.

We respect our elders, children and vulnerable people.

We reach out to others in need.

We are good neighbours.

Well the list could go on but you get the picture.

Well those who practice social responsibility are just responsible people. Period.

Those protesting at hospitals and restaurants and other public places that require vaccine passports and to wear a mask are pathetic. I do have worse words for them in my head.

These same protesters expect full medical care if they get sick.

They expect others to pick up the slack in their irresponsible acts.

Enough is enough already.

Don't put a medical person in a position that they would have to chose who they treat. I would say the vaccinated person first. Let the deniers wait in line. But then I am one with social responsibility and it sounds rather harsh.

Just wear your mask! Wash your hands! Physical distance! Get vaccinated!

PEOPLE WHO DENY COVID REMIND ME OF OTHERS IN HISTORY

Okay I am tired of stupid.

I am tired of trying to be nice to those who deny covid and vaccines and the real death rate in the US.

Reminds me of those who deny the Holocaust.

Who denied residential schools?

The genocide in Rwanda and Bosnia and wherever on this earth.

People have lost loved ones to Covid. Families are hurting.

Anyone who lost a loved one through anything else during Covid and could not honour the person with a real funeral are hurting.

So just keep your mouth shut. Go to your denier parties with your denier friends.

They sound like Nero who fiddled while Rome was burning.

PURPLE ASTERS ADD COLOUR TO A FALL GARDEN

Purple Asters are a delight in a Fall garden. With so many flowers dead or dying along come these flowers.
Even have a friendly visitor.

I am more than ready to chop back all my gardens. But seeing bees and butterflies enjoying these flowers let's me pause to allow them to enjoy the food they give.

Do you have asters in your garden?

THE LANGUAGE OF PUMPKINS

Pumpkins and their orange are healers.

Transformed into a carriage in Cinderella. Edible. Decorative. A Canadian staple in the Fall. Pies are a most from this wonderful vegetable.

How about you? Do you love pumpkins??

REFLECTIONS OF FALL-LIKE THE FALL OF LIFE

Going from Middle Age to Senior has some questions.

Over 65 but not frail is a good thing.

So I question- am I in the Fall of life or the beginning of Winter.

Life has its seasons. Fall seems like the best season with wisdom and financial security of sorts.

Interests, family, purpose in life usually happen in Fall.

Or loss, grief and change in health can happen too.

The trees like life in transition.

It is a turbulent season then. Some good, some bad and some ugly. Some hope for better days and some remorse about days that have passed.

So will more reflections occur, probably.

SUNFLOWERS TEACH ABOUT RESILIENCE-THEY TURN WITH THE SUN

In Italian sunflowers are called Gira Al Sole- turn with the sun.

Resilience let's us turn and flow with situations that allow us to survive.

Resilience is the force that let's us bounce back from adversity.

Let's us carry on. No matter what!

Does surrounding ourselves with sunflowers  increase our resilience?

Perhaps!!

What life's adversities have you experienced and were able to bounce back from with resilience?

VACCINE PASSPORTS HELP WITH RENEWED FREEDOMS

Having the double dose has given some freedom.

Knowing people will be screened for their vaccine status gives even more freedom.

The first day of the proof of vaccine and I attended an event.

Knowing everyone there was double dosed and screened for covid gave a wonderful sense of security.

Yes still maxed and hands sanitized but able to feel good about being at an inside event. Everyone at their own table.

The world is slowly opening up! And safely for all concerned.

A DAY AT THE FARM PICKING APPLES

Going to a farm is fun with family.

So Sonya, Allie, Easton and I went to Applewood Farm in Markham for some apple picking.

Getting the best apples.

The entrance fee let us pick a squash or pumpkin each. So off Easton went to find the best pumpkin.

BARB'S GENEALOGY TIDBITS-WRITING A COVID STORY

Since April 5, 2020 I did several walkabouts in my home community of Richmond Hill. Taking photos of COVID signs and activities.

I felt there were enough pictures of healthcare professionals in masks and gowns.

Many of my photos were signs of the time. Along with some personal family photos.

So what would be your COVID story for future generations?

Now is the time to organize it. Your special family celebrations distanced and masked.

For our family it was no funeral for my beloved husband Adolph. So a Celebration of Life on the funeral home website, on my blog and wherever it was relevant.

I always think photos give  special attention to detail. Of course many items were missed. Like the welcome the kids back to school on school signs. Along Mill Street, many signs for drivers to slow down as the kids are back at school.

My little project will be compiled for the local history room at the library too.

A statement like this can be therapeutic. Putting together your own covid story can help to talk about, reflect, and move forward from this worldwide pandemic. Photos. Video. TikTok. So many ways to do it.

Remember it is your story. Do not compete with others.

TAXES AND DEATH ARE FOR SURE THINGS

Whenever there is a little money left over, some tax or other raises its ugly head.

So paying taxes always gives me some trepidation.

House.

Income.

Food.

Clothing.

Liquor.

Gas.

Well you get the picture.

If one makes money, one pays taxes.

WHAT A LUXURY TO HAVE VACCINES-WHY THE PROTEST??

 #GetvaccinatedAsap

Vaccines save lives.

So protesters against masks and vaccines will want first hand care if sick.

They are a cult! They have misguided information. They need to get a job and be off the streets.

They need to leave healthcare professionals alone.

The fourth wave is being led by antivaxxers who are filling up our hospitals.

There are places on earth where there are scanty amounts of vaccines available.

What a luxury for Canadians to have first class medical care!

So get vaccinated as soon as possible!!

20 YEARS LATER-REMEMBERING SEPTEMBER 11TH

There is not much I can say.

There is so much media footage.

A new documentary.

A musical- Come From Away.

To reflect individually has more meaning.

So write your own thoughts and reflect.

A ROLLING STONE GATHERS NO MOSS

Moss in a woody area is actually quite pretty.

So does the saying mean that moving and not making roots avoids lots?

Is it a good thing to have moss?

What do you think?

NANA SAYS BACK TO SCHOOL WITH POSITIVE THOUGHTS

The school year is under way across the country.

Although there is excitement, many parents are literally holding their breathe all will go well.

So breathe.

You have done as much as you can to make sure your little ones will be safe. The big ones know what they have to do.

Protocols are in place.

All children that can be vaccinated right now have been.

We wait for the little ones to have their turn.

Parents need a big hoorah for coping with a terrible 18 months of up and down and worry.

You have been through so much.

As a grandparent I have told my children and grandchildren that I have their back. I will be there for whatever they need.

Nana says you can do it! Why? Because you have already done so much.

SEPTEMBER AND TIME FOR TRANSITIONS

Time to do the things that get done in September.

Garden cleanup.

Sort summer and winter clothes.

Meetings are revving up- but probably still zoom.

Print and organize photos from the summer. Maybe do a photobook!!

Reflect, organize and get busy with the finer aspects of life.

Like social contacts.
