JULY COMING TO AND END

July- hot and sweaty for those of us experiencing heat waves in Canada. The garden growing. The fruit and veggies abound.

Lots of butterflies and birds and some homegrown veggies on my porch.
6 books read of my summer goal of 10.
A library visit for some historical books. Sleepovers with grandchildren. Market visits.
So Summer rolls along. But much too quickly.

QUILTS AT THE CREEK 2019

Quilts and Quilt shows are important interests of mine. So the Quilts at the Creek annual event was a hit once again.

Black Creek Pioneer Village is a favourite place to visit.
The variety of quilts, textures and colours. Of course, there were lots of purple quilts.

Some quilts just had a multitude of colours.

Don't you just love the beauty of them all!

BARB'S GENEALOGY TIDBITS- WHAT LEGACY TO LEAVE OUR FAMILIES

The Family Historian always has too much information. Too many papers. Lots of records. More than one family chart and tree.
What do our children and other family members really want?
Some will say nothing. Not interested. Will throw it all away?
Lately I have watched some interesting webinars. Read articles. Getting ideas.
Well most people like some photos. Some family information attached to photos.
I have been writing up story lines. Some have made it to this blog.
Writing up the story about me. And Adolph. My parents. His parents. My grandparents. Nice stories with lots of pictures and of course any cited sources like the marriage, birth, diplomas and other interesting memorabilia. Most stories are 20 pages but it is because there are lots of interesting items.
I still am trying to decide on which family tree design to use. The tree. The circle. Start from the top. Start from the bottom. What pretty paper to use?
One piece of advice is to put the written material in several places. Don't just keep it in an album in your home.
So facebook and on several facebook groups. This blog. Send the articles to family members.
A series of essays can be the beginning of the family history book. At least it is for me. Those that read my Ball Point articles know my final objective if able is to do it in book form.
Always cross referencing the material.
So information on me will have information on Adolph. So of course the same relevant family photos can be used in many resources.
The articles can have themes. For example, my article on baby and child deaths in the family. Uses many family members.
One theme like Ernie Ellis and his World War One history.
So the legacy can take many forms. Remember a good family photo album is good. But if there are many events make sure they are put in various sources.
What are you doing for your legacy for your family?

BARB'S GENEALOGY TIDBITS- ANNA BUTTERFIELD AND HER COOKBOOK

I have written a beginning story of Anna Butterfield my paternal gggrandmother.

( Photo courtesy of Dennis Frost)
Age in photo unknown.

The cookbook mentioned in the essay has almost a 100 pages so may be used and discussed at another time.

So the Butterfield/Jasper lines need more work. I have found previously by publishing known information that others may read the article and add to the story. More research is continuing into the Quebec roots.

PICTURES FROM THE TV OF THE FIRST STEPS ON THE MOON

It was an exciting event. People glued to their TVs. My dad took these photos off the TV.

They sat in an album waiting for interest and well the 50th Anniversary of the event. Funny I do not remember him taking the pictures. Probably too involved in watching.

WHERE WERE YOU WHEN THE LUNAR LANDING OCCURRED IN 1969?

July 20 1969- the walk on the Moon. Mesmerized. Watching it live on TV. Hearing that one small step etc quote.

I was 19 about to venture to my first year of university. Grade 13 made us a little older heading off to post high school ventures.

It seemed so exciting. Thinking it was the beginning of space exploration. There would be visits to other planets.

President Kennedy wanted it to happen before the end of the 1960s and well it did. In the nick of time.

So what's your story?

CANADIAN SUMMER BUTTERFLIES

A garden is paradise to butterflies.

You would think with all the Milk Weed in my garden the Monarch would chose it over the Sunflower plant.

Letting the garden be wild brings in so many species.

Having to move slowly to capture any pictures with these silent beautiful beauties.

One of my favourites of a Monarch on my pretty purple cone flowers.

Camera always on stand by to try to capture more of these magnificent creatures.
