THE HAPPY JUNE FLOWER-THE PEONY

Peonies add some delightful colour to the garden. Mine are white. A neighbour has some beautiful dark pink ones.
If you look closely there are little bugs. Peonies need ants to bloom. I forget why but maybe somebody knows. Like other flowers in the garden- their presence is welcomed! Always wishing they would just last longer!

  1. Actually, peonies do not need ants to bloom. They'll bloom normally without ants present. The peonies do attract ants in the bud stage, secreting honey which the ants love and will protect from others. The peonies thus benefit because other insects, some potentially harmful to the plant, are kept away by the ants.
