The family unit needs a father figure or real male role models. It is healthy to have a male and female influence when raising children. Couples flourish when supporting each other in daily life. For some single mothers it may be difficult to try to be both to their children. Having uncles, grandfathers or family friends being positive sources can become vital. Extended families can play such an important role in difficult times and be the backup support needed. In single sex couples, for example, children can have the exposure to other family members. Men benefit by having a family system that provides balance to the work life. A safe haven!
