NATIONAL SOCIAL WORK WEEK 2014

Celebrating Social Work Week gives a chance to showcase what Social Workers do. Often a misunderstood profession-you get people money- maybe sometimes but not really. Found in many locations like schools, hospital, child welfare agencies, mental health facilities, private practice and in management positions in many public and private workplaces, social workers are able to provide a variety of services. Crisis intervention, discharge planning, therapies of many kinds, family and child therapy, conflict resolution to name a few modalities, social work can take one down many roads. This year in Ontario the motto is- Social Work-Champions for Positive Change. For those who are interested check out the Ontario College of Registered Social Workers and Social Service Workers website for a more comprehensive overview of the profession. For me the profession has allowed a varied career in different areas. Thus ending my working years with eclectic experiences in a variety of settings hoping to have a small private practice when retirement eventully happens. Being available to people in their toughest moments gives honour to a profession that facilitates change for individuals, families and communities. Like giving an umbrella doing a rainfall, assists to get through a tough time-that's social work!! Have you ever used Social Workers? What has been your experience?
