NANA SAYS CHRISTMAS SEASON KEEPS CHILDREN HYPER- SUGGESTIONS FOR THE SEASON

With all the hoopla in the Christmas season, children can become very hyper. How to stay focused at school is the teachers' problems! At home, it may be as difficult. Having music that is calming as well as music that allows for family singalongs. Activities like colouring books, making small crafts- with a corner with supplies so the whole house does not become a mess. Outdoor activities- yes burn off that energy in a fun way. Not everyone has all the presents wrapped and house decorated. So one parent taking children to the outdoor activity will help.Yes- use family especially grandparents as the backup team. Shopping without children- even online shopping undisturbed is vital for parents. Be creative in how you include children in activities. Decorating the tree can be one activity. Of course the tree will not look picture perfect like the magazines. Baking simple items. One item. I remember when my girls were little, I tried to do all the baking and have them do one at the same time. Did not work. I learnt to do my cooking and baking separately. Then the cookie session with the girls was enjoyable. It is important to decide what you want to do. Going to a Christmas concert is fun. Most schools have them.Watching favourite movies on TV really helps. Create the Christmas traditions of watching them together. So with less than two weeks to go hang in there and try to enjoy these precious moments with your children. It does not last forever. So have you decided what memories you want to create for them?
