SOCIAL WORK- COUNSELLING IS THE PROCESS

The difference between Social Work and other disciplines is the skill and knowledge to go with the process. Yes tasks must be accomplished but listening to the deeper message that a person or family presents makes progress in a case manageable. It is the client's or family's progress that is important not the worker. The process as it unfolds! So being able to ebb and flow with this process takes expertise. Working with other disciplines is often challenging. Their mandate is very different. Respecting those areas of expertise is a must too. Knowing when to advocate and when to listen takes skill again! The setting where the Social Work is practised makes a difference also! In the Social Work field for over 40 years has given me many challenges!
