A DAY IN HISTORY THAT LEAD TO WORLD WAR ONE

The anniversary of World War One has started today as June 28, 1914 marks the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinad  of Austria, the heir to the throne of the Austria-Hungary empire allies with Germany. It was a Serbian nationalist who killed the Duke and his wife- Sofia. By July 28, 1914 the Triple Entente- United Kingdom, France and the Russian Empire were at war within a month- July 28 2014 with Germany and her allies. As the reminders of this major event begin to be commemorated it is a great lesson in history why war is not always the answer.  As a history buff, I will be reflecting on events periodically. Even today there are marked difference and interpretations of events. The orchestra in Sarajevo wants to provide music that honours the struggle for peace. The young man who killed the Archduke is a hero to Serbians while not to others. Studying history and trying to learn lessons is a human endeavor. Unfortunately history can repeat itself.!
