MEMORIAL DAY IN USA GROUND FOR REFLECTIONS.

Memorial Day in the USA is celebrated in  a big way. Happening to watch a concert last night from Washington honouring generations of their veterans made room for some reflections. People who gave their lives, people who suffered severe injuries, people who may be suffering mentally. With the wonderful testimonials spoken by celebrities and many poignant songs it was a good concert. It ended with phone numbers people could call if they felt they or their loved one needed any help or support. Especially the emotional component! Our veterans and current armed forces that served in Afghanistan and other wars need our love and community support in a big way. The post traumatic stress needs to brought to public awareness constantly. Their message was to help give a vet a job. Be aware, be thankful. The real message was the hope that one day peace would prevail and war would not have to be an option. As we approach the 100th anniversary of the start of World War One and the 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion of Europe, it will give us time to reflect on those who fought and gave us the peace in this country that we enjoy today. With so many new immigrants, it is further important that they learn about the history and sacrifices that make us who we are today. Canada paid its dues on the world stage. Along with our friendly neighbours- USA and Mexico- North America is an example of a peaceful co-existence that has prevailed.
