SOE or Special Operations Executive was the forerunner to MI6.
During World War Two, there was a need to have a special force to work towards overcoming the Nazi regime in Europe.
Our hero is Ellerington Reed Turner Park.
First in the Royal Canadian Airforce, he was recruited to be part of the Special Forces when he was based in England.
He did not speak much about his war endeavors.
He flew behind enemy lines with an American naval officier. We do not know his name as they both used code names.
The rule you only need to know as much as your assignment.
I asked him once where he flew. He mentioned many jaunts into Norway.
Tromstead
Bergen
After the war he flew POWs out of Oslo.
He could not talk much about the secretive nature of his missions.
When I wrote for his war records, it took 15 months to get them. There was no real information on the SOE part of his war experience.
So to our hero and all others who served for Canada.
Remembrance Day is to honour those who fought for us. Not to honour war.
