There are lots of stories and history of how Halloween started.
So a website that sends me emails, talked about the Irish roots of Halloween.
According to the Irish Family History Foundation, it originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. Bonfires were lit and costumes worn to scare away ghosts. Marking the end of summer and the harvest, the dark, cold winter arrived. Celts celebrated the night of October 31st as the ghosts of the dead would return to earth.
Knowing more about Celtic and Irish roots the Irish Family History Foundation is a wonderful source for genealogy and history research in Ireland.
Meanwhile, enjoy Halloween with all its modern traditions that have evolved.
