BACKYARD CANADIAN WINTER IMAGES 2020

 Being home comes with the boredom of lack of photography opportunities. So after the recent snowfall, I decided to venture around my yard for some winter images.

Yes I would love a true drive in the country or an overnight somewhere. But the old adage a bird in the hand or should I say a camera can capture those images wherever they can be found.

ONE LAST BLAST OF SNOW

With winter winding down, there is always one or two more little blasts of snow. It is rather pretty on the branches.

A coniferous tree laden with snow! Soon the green under those branches will emerge again.

CANADIAN WINTER IMAGES

Snow photos are difficult to take without some contrast. Roaming around my winter garden recently, some opportunities arose. My winter rose! Yes the roses should have been pruned back but this one bush kept blooming well into December!

Milkweed- a reminder those dear Monarch Butterflies have migrated south to Mexico for the winter.

A snow covered coniferous tree- the green all year keeps some colour in the garden. Although taken in my backyard, it is so typical of a Canadian snow scene anywhere. Where are your winter photos taking you?

FROM ONE PLACE TO THE NEXT

Is the image conveyed by the wires on telephone poles. We only see a segment at a time and rarely see the whole picture. What is being communicated? Still amazes me that information can be sent miles away! Thanks Alexander!

IT'S COLD OUTSIDE

Since I started to walk to and from work all year round, the seasonal changes do not bother me anymore. By spending 20 minutes outdoors each way, it really is not a long time to be outside and is actually refreshing. What surprises me is the whining this time of year about how cold it is! It's winter in Canada and it is supposed to be cold. Some people work outside for hours every day. Sports enthusiasts will spend time on ski slopes, outdoor rinks skating or even jogging for hours. Then why do so many complain about their little run from their car to a heated building. My grandchildren are learning to enjoy the winter activities. They want to be outside. I remember as a little girl loving to have snow. Wanting to go skating. Enjoying the family outings tobogganing with a thermos of hot chocolate and cookies as the snack. So when does it change that winter becomes a drag! For years when I had to drive in bad weather, I really hated it too! Then I decided it is a season that comes around every year. By venturing into it, it does seem to go faster. Actually walking in snow or outside in the cold does burn more calories! Are you one of those whiners- it's cold outside!

WINTER CHANGES THINGS

Snow covered objects suggest a different perspective. Do the chairs invite you to sit down ? Or do you want to leave them with the virgin snow? The plain black chairs are almost artistic, aren't they? I like to leave them as the snowflakes found a way to enhance them. The same way, I prefer snow on the ground to the brown, dirty look when there are warm spells during the winter. Walking home today I had those thoughts of enjoying the snow and how it cleans the world around me. Fresh layers of newly fallen snow are rather pretty! Extreme cold, however, is not so enjoyable! Too bundled up with most skin covered! I like the imagery this time of year. However, Winter photography has its challenges! Hard to take pictures with mitts! Do you have winter images you enjoy?
