BOOTS

Are footwear used for many different occasions. Construction boots, ski boots, riding boots, snowboard boots, winter boots, spring rain boots, a big long boot called a wader for fishermen to name a few. Attractive legs look great in fashionable boots with heels! Many expressions include boot. Someone gives you the boot- you're fired! Any Western can have a character that "dies with his boots on." Am I scared?- " I'm shaking in my boots!" If you are not behaving- I'll get a big boot and give you a swift kick in the butt! We boot our computers. While training for the Armed Forces, we go to Boot Camp. In England, the boot is the trunk of the car as well as BOOTS is an UK pharmacy chain! Cowboy boots can be popular periodically. My mother had a red pair that received several second looks when she wore them locally! Nancy Sinatra's "These boots are made for Walking" was a hit song. Some creative gardeners have taken old boots, filled them with dirt and planted some flowers as outdoor decoration planters! Personally, I bought the best winter boots that have been perfect for my winter walks to and from work. Do you have a boot tale to tell? What aboot this blog appeals to you as I speak in a Scottish accent? I guess my boots are going walking!

IT'S COLD OUTSIDE

Since I started to walk to and from work all year round, the seasonal changes do not bother me anymore. By spending 20 minutes outdoors each way, it really is not a long time to be outside and is actually refreshing. What surprises me is the whining this time of year about how cold it is! It's winter in Canada and it is supposed to be cold. Some people work outside for hours every day. Sports enthusiasts will spend time on ski slopes, outdoor rinks skating or even jogging for hours. Then why do so many complain about their little run from their car to a heated building. My grandchildren are learning to enjoy the winter activities. They want to be outside. I remember as a little girl loving to have snow. Wanting to go skating. Enjoying the family outings tobogganing with a thermos of hot chocolate and cookies as the snack. So when does it change that winter becomes a drag! For years when I had to drive in bad weather, I really hated it too! Then I decided it is a season that comes around every year. By venturing into it, it does seem to go faster. Actually walking in snow or outside in the cold does burn more calories! Are you one of those whiners- it's cold outside!

SNOW, SNOW AND MORE SNOW

If you wanted a white Christmas, well with all the snow across the country you have your wish. Dressed in layers, my daily walks to and from work are still manageable. I have to watch out for the cars as they can slip and slide in this weather. The children always love to make snowmen and toboggan down the smallest hill. Near my home by the library there is a great hill for sledding and it is fun to watch the children enjoy it. Even in this age of everything electronic, a ride down a snowy slope is still an activity sought by all. North of Toronto the ski and snow board resorts are doing well. Do you enjoy snow activities? Or is your pleasure staying indoors and observing the winter from a warm, cozy seat?
