THE BATTLE OF THE BUTTERTARTS-ONLY IN CANADA, EH?
During the summer of 2013, did you know there was a war brewing in Ontario? It was the war of the buttertarts. Wellington County had an annual buttertart tour for years. Then Durham County posed a tourist attraction of a buttertart tour. Well-Wellington took them to court and the battle of the buttertarts began. It ended peacefully when a challenge occurred in Toronto August 15th. It was decided that there is room for buttertart tours as it actually encourages people to go and buy buttertarts at various locations, eating them and helping determine who makes the best ones! Only in Canada could there be such a battle! The buttertart has become an icon in Ontario cuisine! Perhaps other parts of the country will join with buttertarts of their own! I just enjoyed buying them on our various market trips over the last few months. Fresh fruit and veggies are healthy but buttertarts are fun!

I bought raison butter tarts at the farmer's market today. Big disappointment. Thick tasteless crust and scant filling. Nothing like the fabulous tarts my mom made. Of course, she was from Ontario.
