LIFE IS LIKE A FENCE

Fences make good neighbours. Allow boundaries and privacy. They come in many shapes and sizes. The cost can vary depending on the materials used. Iron fences painted black are distinguished. Wood fences with planks give more protection from the wind but have been known to blow over in the wind. Chain link fences for large businesses or big properties. Farms had fences from boards to keep the cows out and to define the crop grown. An opening with no gate is very inviting. A swing gate allows people through to the other side. A locked gate needs a key and only those invited by the owner. There are imaginary fences we can put around ourselves. Times when we allow others to approach and be part of our territory. Other times the fence goes up for self protection. Like a fence we can be strong like iron or get blown over in a bad wind storm. What kind of fences do you have in your life?

DON'T FENCE ME IN!

Do you ever feel as if there are barriers to what you want to do? A fence can keep bad neighbours out but it also can limit us in our views of the world. It is a safe environment. Gives us boundaries which are often needed. Would having a gate give us  the freedom to come and go in our lives? Perhaps, as long as it is not an excuse not to venture out into the world. It is said good fences make good neighbours! It can be said- don't fence me in!

HAPPY JULY 4TH

A weekend of Nations' celebrations. Although we can have our differences, I always feel good that Canadians and Americans make good neighbours. There are other countries and nationalities that would be difficult to have on our borders. Then our Mexican cousins to the south are wonderful too. Trips there are always fun. So here's to celebrating democracy! Let's continue to hope other nations on this great earth will be given the opportunity to determine their own course. What are you doing with all the celebrations? Did you have a good Canada Day? Are you celebrating the 4th of July? Do you have some special family celebrations?

THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING

No matter what kind of weather, it brings anticipation of warmer times to come. Once the snow melts, looking for those early spring bulbs to poke out of the dirt is a common ritual. It is like a difficult time experienced. It seems it will last forever than there is some hope and events start to turn around or at least have some resolution. Spring brings renewed energy to clean up the house, clean the garden and get outside to walk, run or bike. Isn't it amazing that people start to come outdoors and neighbours are in full view!!! Do you have a spring in your step? Have you sprung into action? Do you feel like you are in the Spring of your life? Like that old saying," Spring has sprung, the grass has riz, I wonder where the birdies is?" Waiting to see my first Robin then it truly will be Spring!!

FENCES MAKE GOOD NEIGHBOURS

Like fences setting boundaries in our lives can help keep our privacy.
Everyone has their own yard and way of doing things. I try to keep boundaries between work and home. Learning at a younger age that sharing too much with the world can bring personal harm. How many times how you shared with a work colleague issues that were personal and next you hear in the middle of a public situation something that is personal?
Put up a fence but one you can talk over and share what, when and to whom you want.
My personal code is keep private and confidential what work mates tell me. Then I can not be the one that breaks that confidence.
