CNE 1985- OLD PHOTOS ARE FUN

Organizing photos into categories. I found this stash of some photos from the CNE- Canadian National Exhibition from 1985.

Most of the photos are taken from the skyway ride.

Who can forget the Flyer? It was the scary roller coaster. Compared to those created today, it was quite tame.

LET'S GO TO THE EX!! TORONTO CELEBRATES

Today the Ex or CNE- Canadian National Exhibition opens in Toronto. So many memories come back.
At the end of the school year we would get our ticket to the Ex. It was an event that was so important in the GTA.
As a young teen my brother Rob and I would go on the first day. Back then there were buses that came from various areas straight to it. We would get the CNE Express at Yonge and Steeles. Coming home took the Express bus back. We had saved money over the summer so we could go on rides and buy our food.
As an adult, I have gone every few years.
Then the grandchildren came along and have gone more often.

The food is always everywhere. The aroma of all of it is what makes the event fun.
Visiting the buildings and midway and playing a few games. Lots of junk to buy.
If you like air shows, then the Labour Day weekend is the time to go.

#55 BARB'S REFLECTIVE 150- THE CANADIAN NATIONAL EXHIBITION

As a child the CNE- in downtown Toronto on Lake Ontario- was the trip anticipated for the whole summer. Getting a free pass at the end of the school year, it was a coveted prize. Since 1879 it has pleased Torontonians and visitors. So a September 2, 2017 outing with one daughter and two grandsons.

At the east end the Princes Gate greets everyone. So many pictures taken under it, by it, in the arch way.

Yes straight through the arches and the EX is there!

Colourful signs for a huge variety of food everywhere.

And drinks!

Games!

And more games!

Many buildings- but of course the Food Building was still very popular! A delicious but messy porchetta sandwich and some poutine fries was my lunch.

In the Arts and Crafts Building we found the Quilt of Belonging.

It was showcased here in 2009 and has travelled around the country and world to return for this special 150 celebration. The Enercare Centre had lots of dealers and events. Every building housed something. Lots to see and buy!

The sky ride gave a good view of the EX and makes it easier to go from one end to the other.

The Dufferin Gate at the west end with the CN Tower visible to all.

Kids love signs and to be part of the memory!

The smells, the games, the crowds,  the memories and listen carefully the last weekend of the EX for the jets from the Air Show.
