JUNE ENDS THE REAL SUMMER BEGINS

With school our and June ending, it really feels like summer. July and August are the summer months. Time to read and lay back. Slow work. Unless you are working then the pace really does not change.
I remember establishing different rules for summer. Less indoor work. More outdoor work. But just more time to be outside. Taking in whatever can happen in a good way.
Ice cream on a patio.
Walks. Bike rides. Swimming. Water fun of all kinds.
Going into the city.
Going into the country.
Barbecues of all kinds.
Enjoying the holidays like Canada Day and the Civic Weekend.
For me. Just some close to home activities.

BARB'S GENEALOGY TIDBITS-60 YEARS AGO THE DI MAMBRO FAMILY CAME TO CANADA

My husband was 9 when he immigrated to Canada with his family.
I wrote the story of that time as Adolph told me.
It can be found at
 https://pier21.ca/culture-trunks/italy/stories/adolfo-di-mambro

Pier 21
Adolph is the boy in the middle on the left side. His brother Charlie is smiling and his brother Tony is eating. Guiseppe-Joe his Dad, Nonna Matrundola and Concetta- his Mom.

So 60 years ago today. They landed at Halifax Nova Scotia. Took the train to Toronto where they were greeted by Concetta's brothers Giosue and Antonio.
So a celebration for the stay in Canada. Adolph became a Canadian citizen in August 1971.

FEELING DOWN-DO SOMETHING NICE FOR SOMEONE

The someone could be you. But when in a sad mood or a bad mood or a pity party mood doing a good deed for someone else may be the solution. It can be something small.
Hold a door open.
Tell a clerk he or she did a good job.
Phone a friend going through a rough time.
Bake a cake and share with family.

Send a cheery email to family and friends.
Think nice thoughts.
The list could go on. But something positive will filter into you.

So what nice thing do you want to do??

NANA SAYS SCHOOL'S OUT-TIME FOR SUMMER FUN

So how programmed are our children for summer? Camps and activities are good.
However leave some down time. Give time for children to read, play, explore and try to plan their own activities. Having resources available is helpful.
So what is Nana doing for the times the grandchildren come over. Well trying to keep them away from my computer full time is a must.
I have put some games and cards in the dining room for some game time.
Snacks in the house that can be taken on picnics, short day trips, little jaunts to splash pads and trails.
Making sure I know the schedules for places like our local WAVE POOL. We can walk there- no car needed.
The local park for basketball and play on the equipment. Yes we can walk there.
So have you put walking in your activities.
A bike ride too really helps.
Teenagers need to be busy too. So any volunteer activities are good. Helping with younger family members. Giving responsibility to them. Expecting them to do chores and help in the home.
Are there family vacations planned? Trips to the cottage? Sleepovers?
Yes it seems like the weeks of summer are so long. But really will go quickly. Yes I know it is hard for all you working parents. I was there and understand how difficult it can be.
But remember I am a Nana and well can be available for assistance as needed.

JUNE WITH THE FLOWERS AND WARMER WEATHER

Spring has been unseasonably colder than normal here in the GTA. But finally some warmer weather has arrived. The garden is lush green with the flowers growing and creating a beautiful array of colour.

Even the wild flowers add some colour.
How is your June garden coming along?

A FAMILY CELEBRATION- A GRADE 8 GRADUATION

Our oldest grandchild and granddaughter graduated last night from Grade 8. She was so pretty. Made us so proud. She won a Music Award which was unexpected but exciting for all. I took a video on one of the cell phones. Not very good at it but it turned out okay. Pictures taken for memories. I was there. As a grandparent it is so endearing to see a grandchild accomplish anything and everything. I feel blessed. I hope the blessing continue for the rest of my little loved ones. Just being there with them is so important!
How about you? Do you love the special moments with children and grandchildren?

BARB'S GENEALOGY TIDBITS-GENEALOGY AND INFANT AND CHILD DEATHS

As I research my genealogical lines, it came to my attention that many of my family and husband's family had significant baby and child deaths.
The following article addressed those family members that I have information.

I am still trying to find where little Cecil and Margaret Mary are buried.

BARB'S GENEALOGY TIDBITS- BALL POINT- MAPS SHOW US WHERE

I researched many websites for my research on Ball Point over the years. My favourite findings were always the maps. I love maps. So this pictorial essay is basically a collection of maps.

Some of the maps printed sideways which was not the intention. I am almost finished the Ball Point story. So now on to more of the stories of the people who lived there.
I hope you have enjoyed the research on our little cape.
