Corn grows everywhere in York Region just north of Toronto. It is a huge commodity in farming for most areas in North America.
The Peaches and Cream version is usually available in August. Some has started to arrive at the markets but I think it is more American than our local crops. When I asked Adolph, he did not know where the corn he bought originated but just it was for sale and looked good. Adolph has started to cook it in a different way. Leave the husks on and barbecue it. Then dehusk after barbecuing! Check out his blog- http://granpalovestocook.blogspot.com for his latest post.
The corn is growing well in this season. Enough rain and enough sun. A little history- the Huron, Neutrals and Tobacco First Nations people settled in this area as well as other areas of Southern Ontario. Corn was a huge staple and continues to be grown throughout North America. There is a craft children can make- corn husk dolls! Perhaps I will find the instructions and post at another time for your crafting pleasure. Meanwhile, wherever you are corn eaten alone or with some butter/margarine and a little salt is a delicious vegetable at any meal. But you do need your toothbrush because some pieces of the kernels can get stuck in your teeth!
