LABOUR DAY WEEKEND 2020

 Usually the end of the EX and the roar of the Air Show jets flying throughout the GTA. Due to COVID-19 cancelled. There was some virtual stuff but too much virtual has become redundant. I would rather break my neck trying to see the planes live.

So how to enjoy this real end of summer and start of the staggered beginning of school.

Well Labour is a good word. Doing some decluttering, organizing and planning of activities.

The community groups need some work done by me.

My genealogy which is ongoing. To continue with those immediate stories. Uploading pictures for the stories.

Oh the jungle of a garden looms and beacons me to tidy it up. A necessary but boring job. I like looking at the garden, not working in it. But did buy a pack of 20 yard waste bags to inspire me.

Trying to be outside as much as possible. Even a restaurant  patio lunch on a windy, cool day with a daughter Friday. Too soon to try indoor dining.

LABOUR DAY WEEKEND

Summer is coming to an end with the Labour Day Weekend. One last blast before a return to school, even though the college and university students have been moving into their dorms for the past week! For most people, a wonderful long weekend. A time to relax or work your butt off with house and cottage organization! School children getting excited or nervous about school starting! For this worker, just glad to have one more day at home to do stuff or not!! I'll see how the time unfolds for me!

LABOUR DAY WEEKEND BRINGS END OF SUMMER REFLECTIONS

The last long weekend of the summer comes with mixed feelings. Yeah it's a long weekend and boo it's the last summer long weekend. Kids getting a last hurrah before heading off to school next week. Parents trying to get the last minute things done even though there is still lots of time to buy new clothes and school supplies. It would never fail, all is organized and once at school children needing something else or not liking the new clothes because all the other kids were wearing a different outfit!! Schools with school uniforms do solve that problem! The workplace starts all the committees again and the workload increases as everyone is back from vacation. The traffic-what can be said about the traffic. Everyone is back! Lucky for me with my walking, no need to worry!! In my younger days I used to spend the long weekend doing Fall cleaning. Now I spread it out over the Fall. Why waste the whole weekend? Depending on the weather, it will determine what will be done. I already decided the growth in the pathways will be managed in October with more weed killer- vinegar and salt to be exact. To put a good layer to absorb in the ground over the cold months hoping it will kill the unwanted growth. For many Canadians, a trip to the family cottages to enjoy the weekend. Although many cottages are now winterized and are used year round. There is a sadness in the air, however, as the transition to September changes the lazy days of summer to the activity level increasing. There are still farmers' markets with the summer vegetables diminishing and the fall ones starting to arrive. Apples and squash will be available soon!! Of course more meals on the back porch until the weather warrants bringing in the summer furniture. So the long weekend and its fun! So what will you be doing on the Labour Day Weekend!!!

 

 

Time for soups and sauces and roasts again. The barbecue does not go away yet.

OH FRIDAY WITH WEEKEND ANTICIPATIONS

I love Fridays. Well, because no matter what the work day brings, it is the end of the week and yeah the weekend. Sometimes my plans are enough for 4 days instead of 2. Then the disappointment not all was accomplished. So today I decided, not to plan anything just to continue to muddle along on all the little tasks and projects in progress to see how much can be done. Throw in hours with the grandchildren! Continue to read a book I started awhile ago. A short country drive to take some much needed blog pictures! Weather permitting or I will watch the world from my window. Sometimes it is good to get off the treadmill of life, trying to do more instead of stopping to enjoy what is in front of me! Shopping, children's lessons, last jaunts to the cottage, street festivals, dinner parties, visiting a sick relative are some of the routine tasks for many people. The housework that never ends-so don't leave it all for the weekend! A little every day! If you are one of the lucky ones-hire a cleaning lady! I continue to be as prepared as possible for that family crisis brewing! Of course, the retirees always say- oh it's the weekend! Enjoy!

THE LABOUR DAY WEEKEND

Is the last official long weekend of the summer. When the children were younger, I used to use it as a mark to clean the house and do the windows- I took the word labour literally! Now I spread out the Fall cleaning to one area at a time over several months! It is a time to organize for the Fall. However, planning some fun events is okay too. Before the pace becomes hectic again it is a great weekend to enjoy! At the Canadian National Exhibition there is always the Labour Day Parade with the various unions marching to demonstrate the Labour movement in this country. It does seem somewhat passe! The labour laws and the protection of working people is so ingrained in our culture now.The origninal battles for rights brought us to where we are today! If you want, you can hire a lawyer!
