DAISIES-THE HAPPY FLOWERS IN THE GARDEN

The white and middle yellow of the daisy in the garden shine against the green. The variety of the daisy flower create pleasure in the yard. Wild ones and those from the greenhouse give a wonderful show.

I like to call it the happy flower!

Even the game- she loves me, she loves me not can be played. Daisy!

DAISY BRINGS A LITTLE HAPPINESS TO THE CANADIAN GARDEN

Season for the variety of daisies in the garden. Smaller than a Sunflower, it is a happy little flower. It adds some colour differently. Between the purple, yellow and red colours of others, the white draws our eye to it. Besides we can all play- he loves me, he loves me not! There are some wild ones that like to grow in my paths and in the garden. I leave them until they are finished flowering. Letting some wild ones abound allows their little seeds to go to the wind to grow elsewhere. Although I do not have a wild flower bed per se, I actually have several wild flowers growing so I feel I am doing my duty to save the natural growth. Of course, weeds do find their way too. Since the laws changed about what kind of week killer can be used , the weeds at the side of the roads are abundant and ugly. Needless to say they make their way to gardens. So when a few wild flowers that are actually pretty arrive, they are a wonderful addition. Thus the daisy with all its varieties is a June/July garden flower. Do you have daisies in your garden? What varieties do you have?

SHE LOVES ME, SHE LOVES ME NOT-THE DAISY

The daisy always is a fun flower with the verse-she loves me, she loves me not or interject-he! Pulling off a petal at a time.
There are some big clusters in my "wild" front garden. With all the rain and extra fertilizer, the garden has become more like a "jungle". Attempts are made to prune it but I often just throw my hands in the air knowing I will not get one of those-front garden awards from the town. In the Fall, I will cut back the dead foilage! On the plus side, it does attract butterflies!

Each flower can be admired on its own merit! There are many varities of the daisy. They grow in many Canadian gardens as well as wild in fields and along the sides of the roads or highways! Easily transplanted from the wild to a "tame" garden the daisy is always a welcome addition. Little work as it is a hardy perennial! Do you have daisies in your garden? Tell me-does she love you?

THE CONE FLOWER

is a beautiful and hardy summer flower. There are several clusters in my garden as with other perennials they tend to spread and grow. It is from the Compositae which really means the daisy family. I like the backwards petals. It is even known to have a herbal use. Apparently the roots can be used as an immune booster. I just think it is pretty and adds colour to the garden. The purple ones attract butterflies. I have been lucky to capture a picture or two of my monarch butterfly occasionally. With our current hot spell, it is good to know it is drought resistant.

Although they are found in many gardens, it is a wild flower indigenous to North America.

Do you have cone flowers in your area?
They make a wonderful welcome addition to a daisy garden. The colour amongst the white. What do you think? Do you like my sea of cone flowers?

THE DAISY

Is that non-pretentious flower that grows wild or can be bought at a nursery as an annual perennial in your garden. It adds some white to a flower bed with an array of colour. There are several varities. In my Spring garden that has tulips, the daisy fills the void when the tulips are gone. For me, it is a cheery flower. Of course, we can play the old game- he loves me, he loves me not- by slowly plucking the petals of a bloom! Or just leave them to be enjoyed! Do you have daisies in your garden? It is a typical Canadian flower loved by all.
