The Legion offered the purchase of tulip bulbs for the anniversary of Canadians liberating the Netherlands in 1945.
So I bought 3 packages of 15 each June 2019. They arrived in late August.
I planted a row in the main front garden, some by the door and several in planters in early November 2019.
The ones in planters did not bloom due to my squirrels digging them up and eating most of them.
Monitoring their growth during the end of April
The one close to the house grew first.
Then a group of three making the area very pretty.
They are really struggling all to bloom this May 8th- the 75th Anniversary of VE- Victory in Europe. However the cool May day kept all of them but one lonely one at the end from blooming. Doesn't it look like they are struggling to bloom!!
I have been checking every day for the last week hoping to get a nice row of tulips for this post. so the above picture is the best I can do.
It is a beautiful orange tulip. A Dutch colour.
The Sponsors for this project are listed above.
KLM- Royal Dutch Airlines
Canadian Tulip Festival/Festival Canadien Des Tulipes
Kingdom of the Netherlands- Royaume des Pays-Bas
Beavertails Pastry
NCC/CCN
De Vroomen Bulb Canada INC
The bulbs are a product of Holland grown from cultivated stock.
The goals was to plant 1.1 million tulips for the 1.1 million Canadians who served.
I did my little part of the project. I am now enjoying these lovely tulips in my garden. As it says on the package $1.00 from each bag sold goes to The Royal Canadian Legion. So helping veterans as well.
