OCTOBER AND ITS FUN EVENTS

Yes Halloween is coming. But it means the end of the month. Still 2 weeks to go of fun and outings. Especially those farm trips. Buying the big pumpkins for carving and decorating is a Canadian traditiion coast to coast. For this tired nana, a liitle pumpkin is all that can be mustered. It's the meaning that counts, not the size!

LIFE IS LIKE A PUMPKIN

Pumpkins come in all shapes and sizes. The Orange is visible and bright. Well it is a happy colour! A pumpkin can be left whole. Carved into whatever design you desire. The inside pulled out to reveal a empty innards. The seeds planted to make baby pumpkins next year or roasted in the oven to be eaten now. The pulp can be cooked and then mashed to make pumpkin pies or cupcakes. The rest put in the compost pile to nourish next year's garden. Sometimes a seed remains in the mix and a renegade plant will grow in a flower bed. Even Cinderella escaped in a carriage made from a pumpkin! And has a green one named after her.

Even as bunch, each pumpkin is unique. With bumps and flaws, big and small! Often a Nana can be heard calling her little grand kiddies- " her pumpkins:!

PUMPKIN-A NICKNAME FOR A GRANDCHILD

 I call my grandchildren my pumpkins sometimes. Why I use that name? I don't  know I just think it is cute. I like pumpkins as they are  a happy vegetable. Can make pies! A symbol of Thanksgiving and Halloween! They can be big and small. If you drive by a field growing pumpkins it can be rather pretty. My grandchildren are not round like the pumpkins so it is not appearance! So what do you nickname your sweet grandchildren?

FALL 2012 IS HERE!

As the real Fall season begins, it is a time to harvest, enjoy the last warm days as they occur, clean up the garden and prepare for the colder weather. Lots of opportunities for short drives and little day trips with the changing colours of the trees providing nature's canvas at its best. There are many country roads close to home for me to meander.The last of the crops such as pumpkins, apples, squashes to name a few to be bought at small and larger markets as well as a few road side stands. As a season it has a lot to offer in terms of events. How do you feel about Fall? Is is a season to embrace?
