DO I MAKE NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS? NOPE

I am like many people who used to make resolutions. Hard to keep past the middle of January.

I plan for activities and fun.

I continue with my ongoing projects.

I review my exercise, diet and other healthy choices- renew, revise, reinvent.

But no resolutions.

I look at my life and what I want to continue to be in it. I look at ways I can be in control.

Life throw us curve balls so being at home plate with a good bat does help.

What about you? Any resolutions?

TO HAVE A RESOLUTION OR NOT?

Many people begin the New Year with a list of resolutions that many experts- whoever they are- say are not fulfilled by the end of January. So disappointment! Why have any resolutions? How did the notion of a resolution even begin? Thinking about this whole notion, a decision was made not to have any resolutions. So how to start the new year freshly? What not just continue as is? Finish projects started. Continue to eat well. Exercise enough. Enjoy life and family. Do the things that bring meaning and pleasure. Why not start the year with the same old, same old? Sounds a little boring but if your life already has joy and pleasure, why not just add more of the same? Or just the same! More is not better, it is just more! Perhaps life's goals are more meaningful than resolutions! Or do we even need goals! Is getting up in the morning and putting a foot in front of the other, making life happen the best way to start any day as well as a new year? Well I personally have no new year resolutions! How about you?

NEW YEAR BRINGS MORE OF THE SAME

The New Year always brings some resolutions for many. Better eating. Lose weight. Go to the gym. Organize. I have learnt to continue doing what I was doing. No resolutions just continue. Yes a sweet or two like chocolate can help the mood. For those with food restrictions like the person with diabetes, yes limiting the amount of carbs and sweets is important. But everyone has to live. So decide what is important to you. I enjoyed the festive season and a birthday for my hubbie with some good eating and yes some sweets-birthday cake. I decided a long time ago-well life is too short to try to meet everyone's standards of how to be. Yes keeping your weight down is a healthy thing but only if it comes with good eating. Starving yourself thin is not good for your body or soul. Unfortunately there are adults with major eating disorders. The diet plans are good. However, if your only topic of conversation is how many calories you put in your mouth, watching and commenting on what everyone else is eating and just swishing your food around your plate pretending-"I am so full" are sure symptoms something is wrong. Besides if you want or need to lose weight-do it quietly. Feel good quietly that your clothes are fitting your body better. Annoying everyone around you with your talk of me, me, and my weight-well you get the picture. Have a cheat day where you may have fast food, a sweet, a calorie ridden alcholic beverage or whatever! So post festive season actually is a little boring. There must be another birthday or party coming up. So some fun eating can occur! You can have your cake and eat it too!!!

THE NEW YEAR, A CHANCE TO RENEW

Many people have new year resolutions. I prefer a renewel of the important areas of my life. Continue to exercise and eat well. Continue to write, to photograph, to craft, to spend time with family. Setting achievable goals, often little daily ones bring more success than trying to believe a change in a day will make a new person out of me. If it is change then the effort is much harder and often too tedious to prevail. The winter is a difficult time for many people. Although there are sports enthusiasts, too many just barely tolerate the season. So resolutions during the cold months may be harder to keep. For example, taking up jogging is much easier in the Spring. Deciding to eat more salads is good in the summer since warm winter soups have more calories and are comfy food. Cutting back to reduce weight is more challenging in the Winter. Why do people make resolutions anyway? When did the idea actually start? Do you know many people who have really kept their resolutions? Perhaps since the hoopla is gone after Christmas, we must have something to keep us going. A resolution- a thing resolved on or an intention! Do you have any resolutions! Or are you renewing your membership in this beautiful life? What do you think?

SAYING GOODBYE

To 2010 makes me reflect on other goodbyes in my life. There were some goodbyes- to family members moving, parents' health declining. Going into a New Year brings the need to try to make resolutions and change- goodbye to bad habits, lose weight, spend less money or whatever comes to mind in the moment. My cousin says he makes goals that are attainable. Positive approach. Goals unlike resolutions can be multi-faceted with baby steps. Writing down the goal or goals, starting and checking the progress made. So as we say goodbye, to what are we saying goodbye- just a date on the calendar? Arrivederci! See you again is a better goodbye. Goodbye to the year by celebrating it and looking forward to another year! Some people hope it will be a better year! It will be what it will be. 2010 brought some joys like a new grandson, ability to keep working, writing regularly, renewed creativity. What did the year bring for you? Do you have resolutions or goals or are you just going to hold your own in the New Year?

GEARING UP FOR THE NEW YEAR

Will you have any New Year's resolutions? This week between Christmas and New Year gets us all reflecting on the last year. The TV summarizes the events, best movie, best song, who was lost, best news story. What were your best moments? Worst moments? Joys? Loves? Are you glad as I am to be able to celebrate another year? Tell me your thoughts.
