Canada Day- a time to celebrate. 148 years since Confederation! Originally called Dominion Day. Over 10,000 years of human settlement according to archeologists! Established July 1, 1867 with only 4 provinces entering and over time all 10 provinces with Newfoundland being the last in 1949 to join. Now with 10 provinces and 4 territories, Canada is a wonderful nation from sea to sea to sea- Atlantic, Pacific and Artic! Canadians celebrate in many different ways. Starting with a pancake and bacon breakfast offered everywhere, to local festivities to large celebrations like the one in our capital Ottawa. Fireworks are a must for many places.
Maple leaves!
Inukshuks!
Totem poles!
Or course a quiet place to fish!
A drive in the city or drive in the country.
Hockey, soccer, lacrosse- actually the official national sport- baseball, gymnastics, rowing, running and much more, our athletes are on the world stage. This land has so much to offer. Celebrating is worth the effort. Are you proud to be Canadian today?
Sing loudly!
O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
the True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
With the French version-
O Canada! Terre do nos aieux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!
Car ton bras sait porter l'epee,
Il sait porter la Croix!
Ton historire est une epopee
Des plus brillants exploits.
Et ta valeur, de foi trepee,
Protegera nos foyers et nos droits.
Progergera nos foyes et nos droits.
Our family was here since the 1820s on one family line and other family lines were here to celebrate the first day of confederation too!
A fun day especially because it is a stat holiday and most people have the day off. If working, they get time and a half salary! How are you celebrating today?
