DEMOCRACY AT WORK IN CANADA

Despite the fact I don't care much for the new prime minister elect, the Canadian people have voted with a 68% turnout. A majority government is usually better than a minority one so business does get done. But election promises are just that. Canada's economy had fared well in the world so the promise to kickstart something that was not broken does not make sense to me. Experinece teaches be careful what you ask, pray wish! Also- plus ca change plus ca la meme chose! Our country swings red than blue now red again. I want to thank Prime Minister Harper for many of the tough decisions he made and for serving our great nation. Like standing up to Putin! Anyone that serves the public should be thanked at the end of the day. Some still say Pearson was one of the best prime ministers with many of the programs he put in place. Democracy is a good thing. Canadians often vote for various reasons. However saying we need change for the sake of change is rather disconcerting. This Canadian does not see much change is needed. I will continue to work my ass off at home and work. Anyone that comes to this great nation should do the same. No free rides! Love my family and am willing to care for all the members as needed. Care about my community. Donate to relevant causes- internationally, nationally, locally. Politically agree to disagree. Continue to follow the humanitarian values.

 It is why my grandfather fought in World War One. It is why my Dad fought in World War Two. Yeah Canada. Yeah Democracy at work!

EXCUSES WHY THEY DID NOT VOTE

Post election excuses are many. At work yesterday, there were so many reasons people did not vote. Only 61% of eligible voters cast their ballot. Here are some- the weather-it was raining; all politicians are corrupt; it was a protest not to go out and vote! Democracy allows for apathy so it is important to respect everyone's excuse. My daughters voted after many years of not voting. For me it is honouring those before us who fought for peace and freedom and the right to vote. A majority will not bring everything to everyone. It will allow that another costly election will not occur for several years. The money can be spent on other initiatives. Work hard everyone! It takes all of us to make a great nation. Our government is only as good as we are as a people. If you do not like what you hear or see, then write, call your MP ( Member of Parliament). What do you think?

IT'S A GOOD DAY-CANADA ROCKS

Wedding over. Election over-stability for Canada for awhile! Time to get on with other things. Helping others. Loving family. Gardening. Summer ventures planned. What builds a strong country is the people- one thing at a time. Working hard. Providing jobs. Practicing good values and believing in others. Respecting people of all ages and backgrounds. Proud to wear our red and white. Proud to show our flag. Good musicians. Good books. Good movies. A safe place to live. Coast to coast- even the west should love Toronto just a little today! Here's to Canada and here's to our place in the world? How do you feel today? Are you proud to be Canadian?

A WOMAN'S VOTE

Yesterday was the municipal election in Ontario. As a woman going to vote, it was time to remember the Suffragettes who fought for the vote in 1917- less than one hundred years ago in our Nation. Women have come a long way but there are still inequalities in our world. I have always encouraged my daughters to vote to honour those who helped us secure this franchise and to have a say in our government. Here's to men who honour their women and women who honour their men. How do you feel about voting? Do you make an effort to practice your right?
