THE DROPPED KEY AT TULUM YUCATAN COAST MEXICO

While visiting Cancun in 1990, a wonderful day trip

was the Mayan fortress by the sea- Tulum. Located 78 miles south of Cancun it has always been a popular archeological site to explore. Our visit started uneventful. I love history and taking photographs. I was enjoying every minute while Adolph's interest had dwindled. He was walking and tossing the car rental key in the air and catching it throughout the visit. We were standing by the Temple of the Wind observing the small "Castillo" across the small bay when Adolph dropped the key down a crevice in the rocks. We tried to see and find it with our hands to no avail. Trying different objects to put down the hole to try to fetch it did not work either. When we returned to our car, Adolph tried to hotwire it which worked , the engine started. However, could not move the gearshift. Fortunately for us, we were able to "bum" a ride back to our hotel with some other tourists who were visiting the site for the day. Explaining our dilemma to the car rental personnel, we obtained an extra key and with an expensive cab ride returned to Tulum the next day to fetch the vehicle. Before we parted, I left Adolph sitting with the key safely in his pocket while I revisited the site to capture photos of buildings missed the previous day. The morale of the story- always carry your keys with the little circle on your key chain through one finger. Many car keys have been locked in the car by others. Even had a brother-in-law years ago while manually locking his door and shutting it, threw his keys inside as he slammed the door shut. Do you have a lost key story to share?

PHOTOS CAPTURE MOMENTS

One January project is the organization of the family photographs from the last few months. Finished scrapbooking Christmas 2010 and finding photos for the new frames received as gifts. Since digital technology helped reduce the cost of enlargements, I make many of my photos into those larger sizes. It becomes a dilemma - do I frame them and put them on the wall or a surface? or do I simply put them in an album for larger prints? I take many pictures because I love to capture the memories of the events in my life. My travel albums, for example, were scrapbooked long before the concept became trendy. I revisit them occasionally as I like to reread the little vignettes I wrote in them. Some of those earlier stories have been used in my blog along with the travel photos. Many people now just leave their photos in computer files, on their phone or on Facebook for the world to see. For me, the majority of pictures are out in full view in my home but kept private. There are some cute ones of the grandchildren- for some reason it is easy to take moments that are so endearing! What are your favourite photos?
