LANGSTAFF SECONDARY SCHOOL AND SO MANY MEMORIES- 1964-1969

Langstaff Secondary School had so many events and activities over the years I attended 1964-1969.

 

A fun event with so many students performing. Does anyone have a memory of what was performed?

LANGSTAFF SECONDARY SCHOOL- 50 YEARS SINCE GRADUATION

Hard to believe that 50 years have gone by since I finished High School. In my time, we had Grade 13 and many students were 18 or 19 heading off to work, college or university.
I had attended Langstaff Secondary School in Thornhill from the school's opening in Sept. 1964 to June 1969. Our class was the first class to go the 5 years.

 We had our graduation ceremony the next November.

The 50th anniversary celebration was so much fun in 2015.
I wonder how the graduating class is doing this year. Will they post in 50 years??

REUNIONS WITH OLD FRIENDS

Each Spring a group of ladies from Langstaff Secondary School get together for a lunch. by the airport as it is convenient for all. 6 of us this year- a smaller group than normal. We talk about life. Catch up on the news. And plan to get together again another year. They knew my husband as we all went to the same school It is a social time but a time as we all knew each other and there are no secrets. No need to impress each other. No need to hide our flaws. A fun time but needed time to stay connected with our roots.

LANGSTAFF SECONDARY SCHOOL CELEBRATED ITS 50TH REUNION

Langstaff Secondary School had its 50th reunion on May 30th. Located in Thornhill Ontario, it was my High School. Started there September 1964 and finished June 1969. So yesterday going to the 60s room, it was the old geiser room- who would have thought so long ago that I would be part of the old group. Talking with current students who were enthralled to meet some of the original students, it was an honour to be there. 5 years of my life- good years. I loved school. Met and later married my High School Sweetheart. Able to reconnect with many people even though a group of us meet annually to have lunch. Think we will add a few new ones to that group after the reunion. Talking and updating at a dinner at night for about 15, it was a good day. Reunions are necessary. We all like to belong somewhere to something and someone. Have you gone to a reunion lately? Is it time to reconnect?

LANGSTAFF SECONDARY SCHOOL THORNHILL ONTARIO CANADA- 50 YEARS YOUNG!

50 years ago I started High School at Langstaff Secondary School in Thornhill, Ontario Canada. September 1964 was the first year of the school. So I attended the first Grand 9 and became one of many who completed the first 5 years from Grade 9 to Grade 13 graduating class. There was the 5 year Arts and Science stream, the 4 Year Arts and Science stream as well as many business courses for those who would need typing, shorthand and other skills. We had to take 9 subjects each term with exams. Physical Education was a required subject. There were sports and extra curricular activities. The first year only went up to Grade 12 as students from other High Schools did not want to transfer to the new school. Students in the grades from 10 to 12 came from Richmond Hill High School and Thornhill High School. Many people did not like to have to transfer so there was a mixed feeling in the school. Mary Ellen McChestney was our very first Prom Queen as well as the Captain of the Cheerleading Squad. She actually went on to become a teacher many years later at Langstaff. Why the Langstaff name? Actually it is a prominent name for the Richmond Hill-Thornhill area? There were many generations. On one of my photo shoots, I found  a Langstaff that served in the War of 1812.

The tombstone is located in the Presbyterian Cemetery in Richmond Hill Ontario. I enjoyed my High Schools. Met my husband Adolph there who, yes was my High School sweetheart. Made good friends and loved school and most of my teachers. As the school celebrates the 50th anniversary, I urge others who attended to tell their tales to the modern generation. The Langstaff name is a proud Canadian name. Who out there attended Langstaff? Please comment on this post if able. I would love to hear from you.
