WHY GRIEF CAN BECOME YOUR FRIEND

No real stages in most lives like it says in the books written on grief.

Will always love the person. So no real moving on and forgetting.

Move forward and have a life.

I read something recently that some people do not want to let go of the pain of grief. The fear is they have to let go of the person.

Let the pain subside.

Let Grief be your friend.

Living occurs. New situations happen.

The love for the person will prevail.

TUESDAYS AT THE THEATRE-A GOOD NIGHT TO ENJOY LIVE MUSIC

Campbell and Johnson was the first duet to be at the Music in the Plaza at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts.

From Nova Scotia, a fun act and nice to be out and about.

I will have to comment on the other two at another time.

WOMAN LEADERS IN HISTORY-TIME FOR AMERICA TO GET WITH THE PROGRAM

Harris now running for President. Wonderful news.

A little research in history finding some significant woman leaders.

Queen Boudicca, of the Celts who fought the Romans when they came to England. I like her as I have Celtic blood.

Golda Meir who led Israel through tough times.

Indira Ghandi in India.

Margaret Thacker who was so vital in Great Britain.

Mary McAllere in Ireland.

Queen Elizabeth the first.

Queen Elizabeth the second.

Both powerhouses in British history.

Katrin Jakobsdottir  in Iceland.

New Zealand with three different woman leaders over time. Jenny Shipley, Helen Clerk and Jacinda Arden who did a great job during the Pandemic.

Who can forget Angela Merkel from Germany.

Kim Campbell for Canada even though it was brief.

Just a short list as there are many more that were not included. What about many women in the business, law, medical and other professional communities.

So if some Americans claim the United States is the greatest nation on earth, they should be ready for a woman President.

DO MEN LIKE IT WHEN WOMEN MAKE THE FIRST MOVE?

I love the 1923 Yellowstone segments with the Spencer-Alexander romance. She made the first move and Spencer liked it.

In my life, I asked Adolph to the Sadie Hawkins Dance. Sort of our first date. But we actually started seeing each other before the dance. He liked that I made the first move.

I would think if in the dating world an interest in someone can come from anyone.

Dropping a hanky or fluttering your eye lashes is not the way to go.

I do not online date so can not talk to that way of making the first move. I find it a little ominous, although I have known many people that found their love interest through such a venue.

Sometimes I believe people may be mutually attracted and somehow mutually they figure it out.

I am grateful I am not in the dating world.

WHY DO SO MANY OBITUARIES READ LIKE A JOB RESUME? WHO WAS THE PERSON?

So many people define themselves by their job apparently.

I heard a recent eulogy and it sounded like the person's job resume.

When I think about the Celebration of Life for Adolph, his work was briefly mentioned. I did include his businesses in the Toronto Star and National Post obituaries as colleagues in the field would know him by those businesses.

When I saw so many obits with the list of the person's jobs and areas of expertise, I questioned if I should have included more of those areas of Adolph's life.

Then recently I saw someone write about telling about the person and I felt I had done Adolph justice by talking about him as a human being and not just his job accomplishments.

His love of family, generosity, and his love of life. What had value to him! And to me. Sonya, our daughter wrote a touching and loving tribute to her Dad.

With the businesses and all the heartache that occurred, those who knew him in business would know his ethics and accomplishments. If they didn't, so be it.

A Celebration of Life is just that. A Celebration.

For anyone interested, follow the side links to June/July of 2020 to find the Celebration of life or click Adolph's name online and you will find it.

I have a resume for Adolph that I include with his Family Story.

So what would you say about the person you lost? What would you want said about you? Have you written an Eulogy? What are your thoughts?

SUMMER IN FULL SWING

 Flowers and warm weather.

Love it.

A grandson playing a summer hockey tournament.

Music in the Plaza at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts.

Music in the Park with Songs from the Hill before the rain washed out the event and all were able to go to safety. I was home when the deluge hit.

Getting ready for more garden cleanup. My routine is to chop and make piles. Then the week of yard waste collection, I bag a day or two before the day.

Back to walking and reading and doing.

How is your summer going?

SOME ARE SAYING NO ROOM FOR POLITICAL VIOLENCE! WELL NO ROOM FOR ANY VIOLENCE

With an attempted political assassination in America, calls for no violence in the political arena prevailed.

Well no there should be calls for no domestic violence in homes, schools, malls or elsewhere.

Time to reflect why do some individuals feel the need for violence.

Every life matters regardless of political stature.

Political assassinations in history draw more attention and public awareness.

Anyone experiencing personal violence in life need safety and support.

BARB'S GENEALOGY TIDBITS- WHY IT IS GOOD TO WRITE YOUR FAMILY STORY

I feel good about the fact several family members have comprehensive stories about them.

My parents, my stepdad, my in-laws and my husband, Adolph.

By writing shorter stories and not trying to write a 300 page book on 3000 ancestors is so doable.

Connecting those stories to the comprehensive family trees then becomes a starting point for the living relatives understand their family.

As the family historian, along with research and finding the basic documents, I also have first hand knowledge of these people.

Including stories and sometimes the funny stories makes them come alive.

So if you have not started to write a story begin.

My way I write articles or stories now is to have an ongoing draft. I simply start the story. Then add any new documentation to it. I can edit as I go along. Add references in the bibliographies.

When I feel I have enough of a story, I print a hardcopy. If a new item of interest comes along after printing, then I simply add it as an addendum then I print the addendum to the story rather then adding it and making the need for another printed copy.

However periodically it is a good idea to review those stories. As with everyone more ideas and information may become available.

September will be my time to review my binders of notes and information.

I always keep in mind, what would my grandchildren want to know about their family.

IMMUNITY DOES NOT MEAN ONE IS NOT GUILTY

A terrible precedent has been set in the United States.

The law usually says - No one is above the law.

All citizens regardless of power must adhere to the laws of the land.

So now a President can do whatever he wants and says to the country he is above the law while in power.

I feel I need to research and consult with our legal community to protect the rights of the Canadian people. As we all know there is a right wing faction happening worldwide and also here in Canada. It is hard not to be influenced by actions south of the border.

We all need to be accountable for all our actions under the law.

Our Constitution and Charter of Rights and Freedoms must protect us all. Our provincial and municipal laws play a major role in our protection as well.

So I will review our laws and see if they need protecting from any fallout from the American situation.

To sit idly by and not want to protect our future here in Canada, especially for my grandchildren
