LOCAL CANADIAN FARMER'S MARKETS ARE WONDERFUL FOR FRESH PRODUCE

Summer food is so divine when fresh local produce is on the table. A first trip to a small farmer's market in Aurora yielded some wonderful opportunities to buy from our farmers.
The grocery chains often have local produce but it is not the same as conversing with the farmers or help themselves.
Growing produce on the Oak Ridges Moraine, this man was proud of his geography interest in his farm in Uxbridge- Oak Ridges Finest!
So head out to your local Canadian market and experience some fun, food and support your local vendors.

FRESH ONTARIO PRODUCE

A drive in the country reveals the bounty of the farms. Local produce is the best. No matter where one lives, eating food fresh from the farm is always a delight. On our drive near Alliston Ontario there were fields of potatoes. Through the Holland Marsh, the onions and carrots are growing well. In our humble garden raspberries fresh from the vine are enjoyed by all.

A TRIP TO A LOCAL FARM IN VAUGHAN ONTARIO

I had fun going to a local farm very close to home. Buying apples and squash for next week's Thanksgiving dinner was fun. The Fall brings more fresh produce like the pumpkins pictured.

This little market is surviving amongst growing subdivisions. Nearby there is a wonderful pumpkin field. I wanted to venture more but the early morning was rainy and foggy so a long drive on a country was not inviting. A few photos taken, I returned home.

Being outdoors and buying fresh local produce will end too soon. This farm stays open until Halloween when it is hoped the pumpkins will be sold out!

THE SUMMER HARVEST

One of the joys of summer is the local harvest. There are so many outdoor markets and roadside stands with fresh produce. I went to a small one yesterday at our local mall. Wednesday and Sunday- just a few stalls but an abundance of fresh produce. With my baskets of tomatoes and peaches plus a cheese bread later returned home. I always like to support the local farmers. Grocery stores are needed but summer buying outside is fun! Do you have local markets you like? Do you ever go picking your own fruit or vegetables? Years ago when I made my own jam, I liked to pick the fresh strawberries. No one eats the jam or pickles anymore so I stopped making my own. We buy the bottled passata for sauce now. Do you still make homemade jams and pickles?
