#44 BARB'S REFLECTIVE 150- THE CANADIAN BARBECUE

So a colleague at work of European background, was hoping the weather would be good because she was going to a barbecue. It was as if it was a novel concept. Hello- Canadians for decades have had barbecues on Canada Day and well throughout the summer. A very Canadian thing to do- have a family barbecue. Well we are going to a family barbecue even with burgers shaped like maple leaves from Sobeys! Not too much hoopla, just simple family fun1 How about you? Are you one of the lucky ones in Ottawa for the big celebration all day! Happy Canada Day!

WEEKEND- A TIME TO HANG OUT!

The nice weather attracts us to country settings and lakes and boats! Hanging out together is a favourite Canadian past time. Once the garden is planted, there is time to enjoy and maintain it! Backyard barbecues give a relaxed atmosphere. We can join the herd or spend time by ourselves contemplating life. How do you like to hang out?

REFLECTIONS OF 2011 SUMMER MOMENTS

Tomorrow will be September. As we leave August, I felt like reviewing some pleasant moments of the summer.
A trip to the Sculpture Garden at the McMichael Collection with my granddaughter.

A visit to Peterborough to see the Lock.

A beach visit to Harbourfront- Toronto, Ontario.
Fun for the day with the family at Blue Mountain-Collingwood before the concert- Huey Lewis and the News at Casino Rama-Orillia.
A quick visit to Westbank BC to help with the folks and had a good view of the fire zone from 2009.
A day trip to Port Perry  for a picnic by Lake Scugog then to the farm on the way home.
Of course many family times, barbecues, June birthdays and the first one for our youngest grandson Tyler in August as well as an anniversary!
The summer had other adventures too but I have highlighted a few. Eating outside! Reading there in my cozy corner while catching some rays all made the summer a time to enjoy. I feel a little down as the Fall starts to kick in. Even though we can have a beautiful Indian Summer, knowing that the cooler weather is approaching brings a sense to try to capture any warm day enjoying it to the fullest. How were your summer months? Did you gather a collection of memories? Did you have some favourite times? Some had the birth of a new grandchild. Some went on a trip to Europe. Some just enjoyed the cottage life. Are you a bit sad that August is over?

MAY IS MY FAVOURITE MONTH

We really start the summer season. It is our anniversary month as Adolph and I celebrate our 40th anniversary. Have some special events planned. The garden, the trees, the mood of people out walking and of course barbecue season is in full swing. Are you enjoying the beginning of this beautiful month?

STEAK ON THE BARBECUE

Along with sping flowers and songbirds, Spring is the renewel of the outdoor barbecue. Although some folks barbecue year round with enclosed outdoor facilities, we start again in April and try to go until the end of October. All meat and grilled vegetables just taste better barbecued. It also gets us outdoors and enjoying the garden. I always put my patio furniture on the porch the beginning of April. Do you love to barbecue? Is it an excuse to be outside? Or do you just love the simplicity of the cooking? And it saves getting the oven dirty!!
