SUNNY AND SNOW- ONLY IN CANADA E?

As the Maritimes were slammed with another winter storm, the flowers are growing in BC. Here in Ontario, cool but no snow. Only in Canada can we have such diverse weather. Calgary can have sun, rain then sleet on a summer day! Canadians are a diverse bunch. We complain about the cold in the winter then will turn on our air conditioners on summer day because it is too hot!! Even though we promise in the winter cold not to complain about the heat in the summer. My kids are headed to warmer climates for the March Break. Me-just hoping the snow will do its slow melt to help the farmers have the moisture they need in the ground. So no flooding with the spring runoff! As for the Maritimes and family there, hope they have seen the end of the snow blizzard for one season! With Spring to arrive next weekend, let's hope it brings a deserved break. Oh weather, always something to say about it!!

A WINTER WONDERLAND IN CANADA

We Canadians can be a fickle people. We call the beauty of a snowfall- a Winter Wonderland- then curse when the shovels and snow blowers are out in full force trying to clear a path to the road. Wet snow is very heavy which made for busy hands yesterday. But lots of snowmen! Here in Ontario February made up for the reasonably okay winter months. More snow accumulation than other years. Other parts of Canada like Manitoba and the Maritimes, even Alberta had snowstorms in November and December. So with March around the corner, will there be more winter or some spring days? Oh Canada, what a wonderland! I would not put the winter grab and gear away just yet!

A POSTCARD FROM NOVA SCOTIA

I had the opportunity to see some of Nova Scotia when my sister and her husband lived there in 1973. They were is the Wolfville area about an hour from Halifax, the captial. My husband Adolph came through Halifax in 1959 when he immigrated from Italy. The port- Pier 21 is now a historic museum commemorating the soldiers who left there for the two world wars, the war brides who came to Canada, the immigrants and other significant historical events.
Cape Breton  at the northern end of Nova Scotia is a beautiful region in Canada and home to a wonderful singer-Rita McNeil.

My brother Reed was working in the Maritimes in 1964. He visited Peggy's Cove- an area that enthralls not only artists but droves of tourists every year. Reed wrote: "Hi All": Welcome to the above. Right now I am sitting in a Mustang in Amherst N.S. It's Saturday. Had nothing to do, so John and I came over to take some pictures. No word on when I leave Moncton. However: I will be home for Christmas no matter what.Will leave Dec. 23-1964 by Air Canada if not sooner. Love Reed dc VE2AES"

THE LULL AFTER THE STORM

The GTA was supposed to have a blizzard this week but by Wednesday it was just a winter storm. Cleanup was good with few accidents or incidents. We Canadians love to talk about the weather. What always makes me laugh is the reaction to a downgraded storm! So many workmates were saying- it wasn't so bad, driving was okay, what was the fuss! I always think- did you really want a terrible storm? Instead of relief and being glad it was manageable- many people seemed annoyed! I prefer storm warnings so I can be prepared- get some milk, check the batteries in the house in case of a power outage, know what the kids are doing! Winter storms are okay that way- the system makes its way slowly! It's the summer storms with a tornado warning that are the surprises. When it comes to weather, we really are a fickle bunch. On the other hand, weather does give us something to discuss! Hi, how are you? Sure is cold outside! But then not as cold as other parts of Canada- look at the temperatures in Winnipeg and the Maritimes are digging out from another bad storm!
