MAY PROJECTS COMING ALONG

I have been trying to finish the various essays and chapters on my Ball Point story. Well it is coming along. Cleaning up the stories and documentation has been therapeutic for me. Copious notes and duplicates of documents are being purged. Saving documents to my Evernote files is good too.

Then crafting. Working on a top for me. I have not knit myself an item for years. So feel good about that.

And the garden. Well with the cold weather hard to work in the garden but it is slowly happening.
My morning walks are not daily but getting there. This morning a lovely walk hearing the birdies sing was good.

Of course trying to keep my hubbie well fed. I made a trout lunch one day and breaded veal cutlets for dinner one night. He says life is like Ground Hog day so I am trying to change that through his stomach. For our anniversary I ordered us a nice dinner from Il Fornello in Richmond Hill. Wonderful dinner with some lovely free desserts from them for our special day.

I have been perusing my photos and trying to put them on different sites so they are not just sitting in a photo album.

However May is such a beautiful month. Just seeing the flowers blooming and the trees turning so many shades of green. I love it.

THE VICTORIA DAY WEEKEND IN CANADA

The first long weekend of the spring/summer season. Open the cottage. Do a weekend day trip. Buy plants for the garden and plant. Enjoy the sun. Have a barbecue. go for a walk. Take spring flower pictures. And the ice cream!!
Having a holiday Monday is always a delight. Of course retired it does not mean as much but enjoyable all the same.
It took some time for the nice weather to arrive but finally it has. So what are you doing for the long weekend.

BARB'S GENEALOGY TIDBITS- ERNEST ADOLPHUS ELLIS- ONE SOLDIER'S ROLE IN WORLD WAR ONE

I wrote this article to be considered for the Durham newsletter and did not hear back in 2014. It sat in my Word file. So I decided to post here for others to read.

Ernie was my maternal grandfather. He died when I was five years old. As always, one wishes there had been some stories he shared with family somewhere but there is not. Thankfully the war records are now online and accessible to all.

I do not have a picture of Ernie in his soldier's outfit. But I think this photo gives a good idea of how he looked.

THOSE CANADIAN SPRING FLOWERS CONTINUE TO DELIGHT

When I look out and see the colour amidst the green and brown of the garden I smile.
Spring flowers are a validation that life goes on.

WHAT MAKES A GOOD MOTHER

Whose definition really counts anyway. All mothers can be good moms in their minds.
Does a good mother take credit for all the good things their child does?
Does a good mother overlook any flaws of their child and tell the world how perfect their child can be?
To me a good mother has flaws and admits those flaws.
A good mother does her best most of the time. Some days it is just a hang in there day.
A good mother lets her child fail and help the child to learn a life's lesson.
There is a shoulder to cry on. Lots of hugs. But expectations for the child to give back to the world and not just take from it.
A good mother listens to the criticisms and yes there are lots of criticisms your child can have about you. Sometimes it is the child's way to discover their own challenges.
A good mother is just there when needed without judgment. But gives space for the child to grow.
A good mother does not lay guilt trips even if it would be the best solution.
Motherhood comes in all shapes and sizes. Raising boys and girls to face the world.
